Buckminster Fuller, american architect from the beginning of the xx century, inventor of the geodesic dome, said, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” 

You can and you should protest when the government is overreaching or when it is damaging the society or the environment. But that is only pointing at the wrong that they have done but give no solution, nor are they implementing any. So an intentional community is a great place to implement the solution that we believe in.
